Job Opportunity: General Manager at Dublin Food Co-op

Dublin Food Co-op is seeking a General Manager to lead their dedicated team at Dublin’s first and only community-led food co-operative.

Established in 1983, Dublin Food Co-op is a small and passionate team with a commitment to affordable, sustainable and ethical food provision. They endeavour to empower and support an equitable society. Like everyone, we’ve had to learn to adapt and navigate the ups and downs that the pandemic has brought to the retail sector and to meet the demand for a new way of living across our base in Dublin 8. They are looking forward to embedding what they have learned and to carving a new way forward while continuing to serve the needs of our community and fulfilling our purpose. As the General Manager, you will play a key role in engaging people with Dublin Food Co-op's exciting story. This is a unique opportunity to help them redefine the ethical grocery model. The Role: General Manager This is a full-time role based in their shop in Kilmainham Square. Managing a diverse team, you will be responsible for the overall management of the co-operative including setting objectives, financial management and will report directly to the board of directors on performance. You will be responsible for the day to day operations of their retail enterprise, which includes in-store and online sales and customer service, stock management and merchandising. Taking ownership of the future composition of your team, you will be encouraged to evolve Dublin Food Co-op's structures to best serve their customers now and position their co-operative to meet the challenges and opportunities in the years ahead.

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Regular reporting to the elected board of directors

  • Developing strategic goals and setting operational objectives

  • Business Development – new products, categories, service offerings

  • Overseeing Day to Day management of an online/physical shop

  • Providing leadership to the staff and team

  • Working with and developing suppliers

  • Stock Management and merchandising

Our ideal candidate will have most, if not all of the following:

  • has a minimum 2 years retail experience or similar, some of which may have been gained in the community/voluntary sector

  • is passionate about locally grown and ethically produced food

  • is proactive with a strategic mindset

  • has a collaborative style & experience of team leadership

  • is excited by Dublin Food Co-op's values of democracy, equality and solidarity

  • has knowledge of marketing & communications, including social media and content development

  • has merchandising & stock management experience

  • has experience in forecasting, budgeting & operational performance management

  • is committed to excellent customer service

  • is interested in growing the business as part of a motivated team in a fast-moving environment

  • is an excellent communicator

  • is driven by the desire to help others learn & develop

Desirable:

  • retail experience in grocery and fresh food management

  • has some experience of or has been active in the co-operative movement

  • Drivers licence

Where is it based: Dublin Food Co-op, Kilmainham Square, Inchicore Road, Dublin 8 and DFC Office, Oblate Hall, Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8. Hours are full time: 39 hours per week, schedules will be arranged with you but will include some evening and weekend work. Remuneration: Salary starting at €40,000 gross per annum with a bonus based on performance.
