On Friday, October 29th, our Manager, Des Hanrahan, was delighted to attend “Social Future: Supporting a Thriving Social Enterprise Sector for Galway” at the invitation of Galway City Community Network.
On Friday, October 29th, our Manager, Des Hanrahan, was delighted to attend “Social Future: Supporting a Thriving Social Enterprise Sector for Galway” at the invitation of Galway City Community Network. Also, in attendance were Lord Mayor of Galway (Collette Connolly), Senator Pauline O’Reilly (Green Party) and Richard Gavin (Dept. of Rural and Community Development).
The event was chaired by Jacinta Fay with three local social enterprises presenting their organisation. The social enterprises showed the highest standards of good practice and demonstrate the cross-cutting social policy areas that social enterprises are delivering on including job creation, skills development, community education, social justice, inclusion and diversity, circular economy and sustainability.

The event examined the challenges that the sector is facing and solutions that would foster the development of a thriving social enterprise sector both in Galway and nationally through the means of an excellent discussion forum /workshop that was hugely engaging and informative.
Time was spent reviewing and discussing the challenges the most prominent of which are:
Lack of support re-funding wages costs of individual programme
Tightness of Finances in many Social Enterprises following Covid
Challenges of not having access or support from Local Enterprise Office
